This too shall pass

This ebb and flow of letting go, yet holding tight (to breathe it in), is one thing she teaches us – the hands of time. And just like Spring, uncertain chaos makes way for change and in some strange way, you realise that everything has its time and place –

Embrace the Now.

What do you remember about first becoming a Mother? I’m not talking about the absolute love bubble that you find yourself in, or the pure bliss of smelling your sweet babe for the 100thtime that day, or all of the other beautiful things that you experience. Becoming a mother is undeniably magical in so many profound ways, but here; right now – I’m interested in those early days of chaos.

Where a scream cuts through the silence of the night, and suddenly you’re undone. Another layer unravels and you scramble to pick it up from the floor, right next to the bucket of fear and anxiety that sits at your feet. Where your eyes are so heavy that you feel they will slam shut forever – but you pry them open, just so your mind can roll over and over; on overtime, because you don’t want to miss a beat.

Do you remember the way your body aches from head to toe, as you tip toe in darkness for a midnight feast – because it’s the only time of day that seems feasible to eat? Cracked nipples, and bottles – the either way guilt. And what about the change that screeches into your life like a freight train on a one-way track; there’s no turning back, so you keep running and running, just to keep up.

This is Motherhood. Endlessly giving. Giving time, giving energy, giving strength. Giving to all who ask for something, and sometimes leaving nothing left for yourself. Some-days the pull to be everything to everyone else can get the better of you; when you need a break – just to take five, but self-care feels so out of reach.

Mamas, I’m here to remind you that this too shall pass. It’s the mantra of motherhood for a reason. One day, you will look back and miss the mess of now – realising that it is the most beautiful picture you have ever seen. There is something magical about the rawness of being knee deep in mud – knowing that you were moving mountains for them.
